Cafe Via Shimanami
Cafe Via Shimanami
Friendly welcome, great coffee, and cool original cycle wear.
Cafe Via Shimanami, located on Setoda’s retro Shiomachi Shotengai high street, has become a must-stop for cyclists visiting the Shimanami Kaido from all over Japan and around the world.
The original Via was in Saitama Prefecture, along the Arakawa River, a cycling hotspot for Tokyo bikers. Starting as a place where a few friends could relax during and after weekend rides, news soon spread. The Saitama cafe is now closed, but owner Keiichi Maekawa has created another cycle oasis here on the Shimanami Kaido.
The friendly Maekawa is passionate about cycling but is very much a “biking for all” guy, and everyone who drops in at Cafe Via is made to feel welcome. He also makes a mean cup of coffee. Also on the menu are refreshing soft drinks such as lemonades, melon smoothies, and some tasty snacks.
Cafe Via also has a wide variety of cycle wear and accessories for sale, featuring designs inspired by the scenery and culture of the Shimanami Kaido. Most can be purchased online, but the popular anime-inspired DECOPO line is only available in-store.
