Recommended Routes & Itineraries

Spreading your Shimanami Kaido ride over two days gives you more time to take in the amazing scenery and check out places along the way than a one-day ride.
Although starting from Onomichi is the most common, beginning your journey from Imabari has the advantage of allowing you to enjoy crossing the spectacular Kurushima Straits while fresh and gets the biggest climbs of the route out of the way early in the ride.
While the picturesque port town of Setoda on Ikuchijima Island, has a variety of accommodation and dining options, when coming in this direction, why not consider staying overnight on Omishima Island, which has it’s own charms?
