Onomichi Brewery is a small craft brewery and taproom housed in a beautifully restored Meiji-era storehouse dating back to 1894, just a short walk from Onomichi’s waterfront and the start of the Shimanami Kaido.

Originally a glass wholesaler’s warehouse, the thick earthen walls and exposed wooden beams have been carefully preserved, giving the space a warm, atmospheric blend of history and modern craft culture.

The brewery follows a strong “Made in Onomichi” philosophy, producing small-batch beers that often incorporate local ingredients such as citrus fruits, tomatoes, and other regional produce. Seasonal brews and creative collaborations with local producers highlight the area’s agricultural character, resulting in beers that feel closely tied to Onomichi’s landscape and food culture. Several of these beers have earned recognition at national craft beer competitions.

Inside, the taproom offers a relaxed, welcoming setting where visitors can enjoy freshly brewed beer alongside light food pairings made with local products. Bottled beers and original merchandise are also available, making it a good spot to pick up a distinctive souvenir.

Opening hours are limited to Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, so planning ahead is recommended. However, for craft beer fans, it is very much worth the effort.
