Originators of a must-eat citrus treat, in the birthplace of a true Shimanami orginal.

Hassakuya’s Innoshima shop is the original home of the locall-famous Hassaku Daifuku, and a place deeply tied to the island’s citrus history. Hassaku citrus itself was first developed on Innoshima in the late 19th century, and this local fruit is at the heart of this shop’s identity.

For visitors to the Shimanami Kaido, stopping here is a chance to taste a sweet that truly originated on the island.

The signature Hassaku Daifuku features a whole segment of fresh hassaku wrapped in soft mochi and lightly sweetened white bean paste. Hassaku’s gentle bitterness and bright acidity set it apart from other citrus, creating a refreshing balance that avoids heaviness. The sweetness of the bean paste is carefully adjusted to highlight the fruit rather than mask it, resulting in a clean, crisp flavor that is especially welcome after cycling.

The shop is located near Shimanami Beach, making it an easy stop along the coastal route. One of its charms is the counter seating inside, where visitors can enjoy their daifuku while looking out toward the Innoshima Bridge spanning the blue waters of the Seto Inland Sea. The relaxed seaside setting adds to the experience, turning a simple sweet break into a memorable moment.

With its unpretentious atmosphere and strong connection to local agriculture, Hassakuya offers more than just dessert—it offers a taste of Innoshima’s history, landscape, and pride.
