Family-friendly swimming beach and picturesque rest stop

You can’t miss the palm tree-lined Hakata Beach Park as you pass by on the Shimanami Kaido’s main “Blue Line” route as it skirts the coast on the short Hakata Island section between the Omishima Bridge and the Oshima-Hakata Bridge. With its soft sandy beach and crystal-clear waters, it’s the perfect spot to take a relaxing break, cool off with a swim, or simply enjoy the stunning views of the Seto Inland Sea.
 
The park offers a range of amenities, including picnic areas, showers, and changing facilities, making it a convenient stop for cyclists and travelers. The gentle waves and shallow waters also make it an excellent destination for families and those looking to unwind in a peaceful seaside setting.
 
It is a popular swimming beach during the summer holiday (late July to the end of August) but very quiet throughout the rest of the year. There is a market next to the Shimanami Japan rental bike terminal where you can buy souvenirs and grab lunch at casual restaurant, as well as refreshing, salt-flavored soft serve ice cream made with the island’s nationally known Hakata Salt.
