Noshima Suigun Tidal Currents Boat Cruise
Noshima Suigun Tidal Currents Boat Cruise
Feel the power of the swirling currents of Shimanami's waterways.
Noshima Island can be seen from the Shimanami Kaido bike route as you cross the Hakata-Oshima Bridge and ride the coastal road north of Miyakubo Port on Oshima. The island may be tiny, but it was once a stronghold of the Noshima Murakami Kaizoku, which controlled sea traffic in this area during Japan's medieval Warring States period.
Key to their power was their intimate knowledge of the powerful, constantly shifting currents that course through these waters. Noshima Suigun offers thrilling boat tours on which you can feel the power of the currents departing from Noshima Ferry Port in Miyakubo, just below the Murakami Kaizoku Museum, several times a day.
As well as witnessing the dynamic tidal currents that can reach speeds of up to 10 knots (approximately 18 km/h) up close, the 40-minute cruise also allows you to enjoy stunning views of the surrounding islands and the impressive Hakata-Oshima Bridge. You can also get a close-up view of Noshima Island, on which a strategic outpost once stood and which is rarely open to the public. The cruise is not only a thrilling adventure, it is an excellent way to experience the area's martime heritage in combination with a visit to the Murakami Kaizoku Museum.
While reservations are generally required for groups of eight or more, individual travelers can purchase tickets on-site. Arriving at least five minutes before departure is advisable to ensure a smooth boarding process.
Passenger safety is a top priority. Cruises may be canceled at short notice in adverse weather conditions, such as strong winds or thunderstorms.
Pets are also welcome aboard as long as they are kept securely on a lead!
