Michi-no-Eki Rest Stop: Tatara Shimanami Park
Michi-no-Eki Rest Stop: Tatara Shimanami Park
Tatara Shimanami Park is a popular, scenic rest stop located on the Omishima end of the Tatara Bridge.
With wide open views of the Seto Inland Sea and the elegant span of the bridge overhead, Tatara Shimanami Park is an ideal place to pause, relax, and enjoy the island atmosphere.
The park is well equipped for travelers, especially cyclists. Facilities include clean restrooms, vending machines, shaded seating areas, and open lawns perfect for stretching out or enjoying a picnic. The adjacent roadside station offers local products, souvenirs, and cycling-friendly amenities, while the on-site restaurant serves regional dishes made with fresh local ingredients, making it a convenient lunch stop along the route.
One of the park’s most notable features is the “Cyclist Sanctuary” stone monument, erected to celebrate the Shimanami Kaido as a world-class cycling route. Many riders stop here to take photos, marking their journey across the islands and the Tatara Bridge, one of the route’s most iconic crossings.
You will also find one of Shimanami Japan's rental cycle terminals here. You can pick up and drop off bikes here, as well as get a fresh battery for your battery-assist rental bike.
With calm coastal scenery, passing ships, and views that change beautifully with the weather and time of day, Tatara Shimanami Park is more than just a rest area. It’s a welcoming gateway to Omishima and a memorable highlight for anyone exploring the Shimanami Kaido by bike or car.
